Director, Plant Operations

The Director role is responsible for managing the hospital's physical plant and leading the plant operations team. This role is crucial for ensuring that the facility's infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Director oversees all construction and project management related activities, acting as the Facility Safety Officer and serving on various hospital committees. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plant Operations Management :  Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of all physical plant systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. 

  • Construction Oversight :  Manage all construction and renovation projects by collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors. Review and approve project plans with budgets, specifications, and codes and regulations in mind.

  • Project Management :  ​​​​​​​Lead and coordinate project management activities for hospital improvements, develop timelines, allocate resources, and conduct regular site inspections.

  • Safety and Compliance :  ​​​​​​​Acts as the Facility Safety Officer by staying current with safety regulations, building codes, industry standards, and conduct safety audits and inspections.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor plant operations staff. Developing training programs to ensure all staff are knowledgeable about best practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation.

  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the budget for plant operations by monitoring expenditures and implementing cost-saving measures.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all plant operations, maintenance activities, and projects. Prepare and present reports on project status, budget, and compliance.

  • Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborate with other hospital departments, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and promote effective communication and teamwork.

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the long-term strategic planning of the facility by identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement in plant operations.

  • Committees and Collaboration: Participate in hospital committees and task forces related to facility management, safety, and construction.

    Schedule

    M-F 8a-4:30p, 40 hours per week.

    Qualifications 

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience (minimum of 5 years in plant operations with at least 3 years in a supervisory role).

  • Available for on-call emergency support 24/7, except during assigned vacation periods.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with staff, patients, visitors, and hospital management

  • Proficiency in building automation systems, interpreting blueprints and construction design plans, and Microsoft suite products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field.

  • Knowledge of hospital codes and practices.

  • Experience in maintenance and plant operations within a healthcare environment.

  • Supervisory experience in managing construction and project management personnel.
