Primary Health Care Behavioral Health Therapist in Des Moines, Iowa

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Therapist to join our team at PHC. This position will work out of our East Side Clinic and Engebretsen Clinic and will also provide telehealth services.

As a Behavioral Health Therapist, you will provide therapy to improve the overall health of patients; including individuals involved in PHC programs, clinical care and individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. You will work in cooperation with other health care providers, clinic staff, community partners, and PHC support staff to address mental health and behavioral health needs of our patient population and may provide services off site if needed. Your responsibilities will include providing brief and ongoing therapy, assessment and behavioral interventions while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and PHC policies and procedures.

    What You Will Do

  • Collaborates with PHC staff and community partners, ensuring delivery of comprehensive behavioral health services to PHC patients and clients that targets interventions to improve patient functioning and behavior. Works cooperatively with clinic staff to provide patients with referrals for appropriate specialty services as needed.

  • Provides assessment and diagnostic impressions. Conducts individual and group counseling, primarily through visits to PHC clinics, area shelter(s), and other sites as appropriate. Develops and updates treatment plans as appropriate.

  • Identifies and evaluates health risk behavior and provides focused interventions for mental, behavioral, and substance use problems in accordance with the preferred care model at PHC sites. Provides access to patients by engaging in flow of clinic/setting and seeking referrals. Advocates for primary care behavioral health.

  • Maintains current and accurate documentation of services provided in accordance with standards set by PHC and grant requirements.

  • Provides clinical consultation and educational programs on behavioral health related topics to staff, students, consumers, and other agencies as requested.

  • Participates in clinic and performance improvement meetings as well as in-service training opportunities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications You'll Need for thie Role

    Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marital and Family Therapy, Clinical Mental Health Counseling or related clinical field

  • Experience and working knowledge of third-party payers and associated regulations.

  • Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft applications and ability to learn computer applications.

  • Excellent collaboration and team-oriented skills.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Social Worker (LISW, LMSW), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) from the State of Iowa; *current Mandatory Reporter Training: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse recognized by the State of Iowa; *current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certification recognized by the American Heart Association. *Must be obtained during introductory period if not current.

Preferred:

  • Community Health Center experience.

  • Previous clinical experience.

  • Experience working with indigent populations.

  • Experience working with clients who need assistance relating to domestic violence, mental health, chemical dependency, homelessness, or crisis intervention.

  • Bilingual, verbal and written language proficiency; English/Spanish.

  • Licenses/Certifications: CADC, IADC, tCADC

    Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $51,200 - $64,000 annually. Candidates with extensive work experience related to this position may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay range maximum of $76,800 .
