Packaging Corporation of America’s DeRidder, LA paper mill, a leader in safety, is seeking applicants possessing safety leadership skills for the following positions in its maintenance department.

Journeyman – Mechanical Maintenance

Starting pay for Journeyman – Mechanical Maintenance Technician is $42.90 per hour. Successful candidates with satisfactory performance will be eligible for a wage increase within 6 months.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Troubleshooting, maintaining and repair of industrial equipment and machinery.

  • Interpreting prints, schematics and technical manuals.

  • Work with key mechanical, electrical and process personnel to support daily and monthly maintenance outages as well as annual outage jobs.

  • Work with mechanical maintenance/engineering and operations personnel to complete maintenance and capital projects

  • Utilize predictive and preventive maintenance programs to identify and correct equipment issues.

  • Looks for opportunities to solve issues, reduce costs, and improve performance.

  • Support the Mill goals for safety, environmental, and other areas of need.

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspections using diagnostic tools and test equipment to make necessary corrections to keep equipment from failing all the while maintaining documentation of all repair and calibration work.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Licenses and or Work Experience:

  • Possess a valid Louisiana state indentured Mechanical Maintenance Journeyman’s License in one (1) of the following crafts – Millwright, Welding, Mechanist or Pipefitting OR

  • 6 years of experience at a Journeyman level as a Millwright, Welding, Machinist, Pipefitting, with 2 of the years technical degree / certification of completion from a college or Vo-Technical schools in mechanical maintenance or

  • Equivalent military experience

  • Must be willing to work any shift assigned, including holidays and weekends and accept call-outs/overtime outside of the normal workday.

  • Must be willing to participate in a team-based atmosphere to complete projects, tasks, and any other problem-solving projects.

  • Ability to perform basic physical tasks (pushing, bending, twisting and repetitive motions).

  • Ability to apply skills to continuous process improvements while maintaining maximum levels of safety.

  • Ability to exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organization, and computer skills.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment medical exam and drug test

  • Must least 18 years of age.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pulp & Paper industry experience

  • Multi-craft

  • Experience in Vibration Analysis
