Job Title: Saw Operator

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Saw Operator for a flexible 1st shift position (5am to 3pm, M-Th) with possible additional hours on Friday and Saturday as needed. The start time can be adjusted between 1am and 5am. This position involves cutting various sizes of stock up to 36 inches in diameter using band saws or circular saws, reading blueprints/shop drawings, and maximizing material usage.

Responsibilities

  • Read tape measures to cut stock at precise lengths (1/16th inch accuracy).

  • Operate saws such as band saws or circular saws.

  • Cut all sizes of stock up to 36 inches in diameter.

  • Interpret blueprints/shop drawings to determine final block size and shape.

  • Figure out the optimal way to cut raw material for maximum yield.

  • Operate machinery according to training documents.

  • Adjust machine controls to maintain proper part sizes.

  • Install saw blades and place guards correctly.

  • Set up saw operations using appropriate tools.

  • Load and unload parts being cut.

  • Adjust machines to achieve precise sizes and shapes.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating machinery in a heavy manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in reading tape measures.

  • Ability to use basic math to calculate the best way to cut raw material.

  • Knowledge of cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts.

  • Understanding of blueprints and shop drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior saw experience is a plus.

  • Experience operating machinery is required.

  • Ability to add fractions and perform other basic math operations.

Work Environment

The work environment is a graphite machine shop, which can be very dirty and potentially dusty. It may be cold in winter and hot in summer. You will work in a team environment with typically 5 employees in the department. There are currently open positions on the 2nd shift with the opportunity to transfer to the 1st shift in the future. The company provides uniforms (once hired direct) and showers for those who wish to clean up before leaving work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, Pennsylvania.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
