Position Summary:
Join our dynamic and highly collaborative Educator Preparation team as the Educator Content Competency Consultant and play a key role in ensuring a high standard of content competency in our licensed Colorado educators. In this role, you will work alongside a team to review content competency submissions and provide exceptional customer service to candidates and educator preparation programs. You will work across the Educator Preparation and Licensing offices to create and maintain vital resources for aspiring educators and educator preparation programs regarding the multiple routes to demonstrate content competency; address inquiries and concerns through meetings, phone calls and emails; and take the lead in developing a data collection and reporting system to track candidate content competency achievement.
The final salary is anticipated to fall within the posted salary range, however, could be higher or lower depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other qualifications of the preferred candidate while considering internal equity.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Via phone, e-mail, online services and in person, serve as a subject-matter expert, problem-solving team member and consultant to guide applicants, educator candidates and internal and external stakeholders through credentialing options and licensure pathways, as well as the application and licensure process.
B. Collaborate with the Colorado educator workforce to provide consultation, information, guidance, technical assistance and support to candidates regarding options to demonstrate content competency for licensure.
C. Consult and advise educators, educator preparation programs, schools, districts, and BOCES’s representatives regarding traditional and alternative preparation pathways to licensure, including various options and requirements for demonstration of content competency, and authorizations and licensure.
D. Independently analyze and make recommendations regarding multiple measures to demonstrate content competency submissions for review utilizing submission data, established guidelines, theory, principals, concepts, professional standards, Colorado Revised Statute and Colorado State Board of Education rule to approve or disapprove including problem-solve submission requests to reach a conclusion that results in fair and equitable treatment of each candidate.
E. Develop and maintain a data collection and reporting plan for demonstration of content competency data.
F. Analyze questions, concerns and process constraints to provide consultation, customer service and solve problems.
G. Strive to maintain an evaluation cycle within 15 business days of submission to issue evaluation decisions in a timely, fair and consistent manner.
H. Serve as an initial point of contact for the Colorado education workforce regarding multiple measures for demonstration of content competency requirements and submission status.
I. Analyze, interpret, maintain and utilize (via effective and efficient computer skills in the COOL system, Microsoft Office suite and other online services) up-to-date resource information that reflects current state laws, state board of education rule and regulation, and unit
reference materials and job aids.
J. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUMEDUCATION ANDEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university
Two or more years' experience in a school or education setting working with teachers, special services providers, principals and/or administrators

Ability to analyze an individual's education as demonstrated through transcripts, experience, and other qualifications in light of applicable state statute, and state board rule.
Experience in public or private education
Strong computer and online/web services skills such as search engines, chat features, Google documents, Microsoft Office products
Ability to work with multiple data sources to determine trends and next steps for program improvement.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and willingness to regularly speak with individuals by phone and/or chat
Strong attention to detail (to include proofreading work, communications, research, etc.)
Ability to effectively balance quality of work and productivity expectations
Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers (i.e., other CDE units, school districts, etc.)
Ability to prioritize and organize work to accommodate and meet the changing needs of the department and to meet deadlines
Takes initiative and exhibits a proactive approach to work
Ability to think and work both independently and interactively as part of a team
Ability to sit for long periods

Preferred Qualifications (Preferred/Not Required):
Experience with project management, especially in support of large-scale, complex programs
Colorado teacher, principal, district/BOCES leader, or educator preparation program leader
Valid or expired educator license preferred
