GENERAL SUMMARY

The SPARC Community & Student Resources Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the delivery of on and off campus resources necessary to meet the basic human needs of students at Community College of Denver. This position has the responsibility to expand the existing primary community and student resources functions within the Student Programming, Activities & Resource Center to Lowry & AMC students as they relate to resource service coordination. Reporting to the Associate Dean, SPARC, the Community & Student Resources Coordinator will create and facilitate culturally responsive programming and services for our diverse student population, with the overall goals of advancing equity, deepening student resilience with the goal of broadening academic access and success;, The position requires strong partnership with the CCD Care and Counseling Teams and other departments and programs within the college to support the college’s mission and strategic initiatives.

This position is not a licensed mental health professional and does not provide licensed counseling, though counseling skills are useful in working with students in need of human services support. All appropriate reporting channels need to be utilized in relation to Care Team, Conduct, Title IX and Clery depending on the situation.

Description of Job

PRIMARY DUTIES

Student Support

Act as point-of-contact for students who need on and off campus resources to support their academic success, retention, and completion. Provide students with holistic case management and referrals to various resources on and off campus for personal, academic and financial wellness.

Administer the emergency aid program,

Assist with the implementation and administration of the Single Stop benefits screening program.

Assist with the development and oversite of grants specific to SPARC Human Services. Facilitate and expand primary element of the program: Food pantry, childcare and housing scholarships, student intake appointments, outreach & educational programming.

Provide outreach to all students, including students on the Lowry & AMC campuses. Identify needed human service resources for the respective campuses and expand resources.

Supervising and Training

Supervision, training, coaching and evaluation of grant funded employees, hourly employees and work study students who work in CCD SPARC. Organize, facilitate, and evaluate faculty and staff trainings around recognizing and supporting students in crisis and responding to difficult students and situations.

Networking and Professional Development

Network with community-based service organizations to stay up to date on resources that will benefit student needs and inform a referral system. Research the personal, academic and financial wellness interests and needs of prospective, new and continuing students. Responsible for ensuring the college community is aware of resources both on-and-off-campus and provide referrals, such as but not limited to speaking at various departmental meetings and campus events

Written Communication, Records, and Assessment

Provide outreach using student engagement technology.

Design appropriate forms, signage, web/social media and written material including sign-in sheets, directions, etc. for resources, programs and services.

Keep accurate records of student contacts, needs and outcomes connected with institutional persistence goals.

Develop and implement metrics to assess goals and outcomes for all programs within the center.

Budget Management

Budget management and oversight for food pantry, housing stipend, and childcare stipend. Totaling approximately $70,000.

Community Engagement

Coordinate a metro-Denver human services organization Resource Fair for Community College of Denver students.

Assist with the planning of and participate in campus wide outreach programming, such as the Annual Auraria Hunger and Homelessness Awareness event.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education: (required/minimum)

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human services, social work, psychology, or related experience in lieu of the bachelor’s degree

Experience: (required/minimum)

Three (3) years of experience in counseling, human services, social work, psychology or related experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent organizational ability to manage multiple projects and to work independently and in a team.

  • MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.

  • Demonstrated experience and success working with underrepresented student populations including students of color, first generation and low-income students.

  • Case Management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: (preferred)

Master’s degree. Years of related professional experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Experience: (preferred)

Five (5) years of experience in higher education or related field.

Three (3) years of direct supervisory experience with two or more staff members.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (preferred)

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

  • Internet Native Banner and Self-Service Banner student systems, Maxient, EAB Navigate, and Single Stop

  • Social Media marketing experience.

  • Experience working with and/or proficiency in culture/language of at least one underrepresented group.

  • Working knowledge of Denver Metro area and/or Colorado resources

  • Experience educating/ promoting resources.

  • Experience in community engagement, including formulating, training, and presenting information on services & resources.

Equipment Used:Personal computer, fax, phone, copier, cell phone, popcorn machine.

Other Considerations: Potential evening and weekend hours. Capability of standing for long periods and handling logistics of large events.
