Amazon Systems & Software Development Manager, GCID (Global Capacity & Infrastructure Development) in Denver, Colorado

Are you passionate about leading a critical high-impact, growing systems and software development team? If so, join us! This role is responsible for leading a global team accountable for prioritizing, planning, executing, and managing build and development projects across a suite of tools, which serve the builders of AWS Infrastructure. This program includes but are not limited to: feature and service builds, technology migrations, legacy architecture deprecation, integrations with other AWS teams, and new tooling onboarding.

A Systems Development Manager at Amazon understands the larger AWS Infrastructure picture (i.e., telecommunications infrastructure, datacenters, customer needs, business opportunities, and problems to be solved), facilitates connections to customers, and guides the team in using the working backwards process to ensure the right solutions are developed and prioritized. This role is tactical and strategic: it is responsible for identifying strategic opportunities that solve tactical problems, and knowing when to invest in one over the other to deliver the greatest impact with the smallest investment.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Key job responsibilities

Systems and Tooling Strategy, Creating a Roadmap: Identify, define, and drive the systems strategy, vision, and roadmap for internal tools and the associated features. Collaborate with Business Owners and Engineering Owners to align product priorities with business goals.

System Development Leadership: Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams in a product management capacity. Demonstrated ability to inspire and guide teams to achieve product excellence and drive innovation.

Telecom Expertise: Possess a deep understanding of telecom infrastructure technologies (including Fiber, DWDM, IP etc), expertise in building OSS/BSS GIS Geospatial systems, their architecture, and their role in ensuring efficient operations.

Lead the end-to-end software and systems development process, including requirement gathering, design, development, UAT, and deployment of all new systems and features. Drive the creation of high-quality features that meet user needs and exceed expectations.

Cross Collaboration: Work closely with business, Optical, Border Engineering, and Network Operations to ensure seamless and timely execution of the product roadmap. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages effective communication and problem-solving.

This Systems and Software Development Manager role is within the Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development organization. The team has a wide range of responsibilities: we develop tooling roadmaps, implement process solutions, collaborate with peers and stakeholders across organizations to ensure our employees have the efficient tools and processes to execute on their goals. About the team

Within AWS Networking, the Global Capacity Infrastructure Development organization is responsible for connecting Amazon locations to one another, and then to the global Internet. With connections to thousands in hundreds of locations across the world, our mission is to deliver connectivity experience that sets the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost, making Amazon the clear choice for our customers’ needs. Our team provides high-performing Internet connectivity for a wide range of use cases, such as retail, video streaming (Prime Video), content delivery (CloudFront), DNS (Route53), AWS services (such as EC2/S3), consumer devices (such as FireTV/Kindle/Echo), and more.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of system or software development experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier software services experience

    • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing Salesforce.com based solutions

  • Experience developing Geospatial Tools

  • Experience with GE Smallworld

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $149,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $258,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
