Xcel Energy Safety Business Intern in Denver, Colorado

Project Description:

  • Help plan and conduct small-to-medium projects and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and health statutes and regulations. Participate in safety and health related investigations observing the application of improvement in technology concepts and new approaches in the field. Work with onsite consultants to recognize, monitor and make recommendations to ensure workplace safety hazards are corrected through audits, ergonomic assessments, and interventions ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies rules.

  • Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist Safety Consultants to develop, implement and evaluate the employee safety program in partnership with management. Responsibilities include helping with recognition, evaluation, and recommendations for minimizing employee injuries/illnesses through hazard identification, accident investigation, ergonomic assessments, and review of accident history.

  • Provide consulting services which include recognition, evaluation and recommendations designed to minimize deficiencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Engage with management to learn how to develop their responsibility and leadership in safety in their locations. Assist site management with contractor safety questions and compliance paperwork.

  • Help monitor and interpret federal, state, and local safety and health rules and regulations which impact the business units.

  • Help provide regulatory compliance training to personnel for new hire safety orientations and annual OSHA required training.

  • Assist Safety Consultants with safety and health audits and deliver feedback to business unit management on their accident elimination programs and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors’ or Masters’ program with a degree focus in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline

  • Junior, Senior, or Graduate level

Preferred Requirements

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

  • Knowledge of Human and Organization Performance (HOP) principles.

  • Interpersonal skills, an ability to manage competing priorities, and comfort with multi-tasking.

  • Verbal, written, and presentation communication and collaboration skills

  • This will be a summer only opportunity. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $17.80 to $23.00 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
