Black & Veatch Corporation Electrical Engineer 3 in Denver, Colorado
Duties: Prepare a variety of medium complex electrical engineering technical drawings for high voltage substations up to 345kV, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring diagrams, panel front view drawings, equipment arrangements, grounding layouts, conduit layout plans, elevations, and bill of materials. Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software to perform calculations including ampacity/derating, battery sizing, lightning, AC/DC station service loading, voltage drop & conduit fill following standard methods and principles. Confer with engineers, clients, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products. Manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements. Reviews work of lower-level engineers for all aspects of substation designs. Coordinate with other disciplines. Perform quality verifications (QA/QC) for electricals drawings and calculations prior to issuing for construction. Review vendor drawings. Provide manhour, schedule, and cost estimates for proposals. Create and review the accurate/current technical documents produced for the project and complete any As-Built markups. Function as the liaison with various clients, vendors, and design engineers for technical support. Work closely with the design engineers, clients, and project controls to ensure that design information, construction materials, and necessary services are available to support the project schedule. Ensure technical documents remain accurate and up-to-date while proactively engaging with suppliers/vendors on any technical issues that may arise. Oversee and Train/mentor Electrical Engineers. Requirements: Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, plus at least three years of related experience. Related experience must include: high-voltage substation design (minimum of 34.5kV); creating and reviewing project schedules and budgets; performing quality analysis and quality control responsibilities; and designing and interpreting one lines, three lines, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and physical substation drawings (i.e. plan views, section cuts, grounding, conduit, cable schedule, and bill of materials,). Must have experience working with substation indoor and outdoor design. Must have experience working with civil and construction engineers, construction support, internal and external client co-ordination, and procurement of major electrical equipment. Must have experience with cost estimation and analyzed improvements in QA/QC of the design package. Must have experience with Microsoft Office and PDF writing software including Bluebeam Revu, Adobe, or related. Must have experience with applicable codes and standards for substation projects, including NESC, NEC, and IEEE. This position allows for telecommuting within standard commuting distance from the Black and Veatch Denver, Colorado office. National travel required up to 10% of the time.
