DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:
This position is only open to Colorado state residents.
This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
About the Position
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a vacancy for a Construction Materials Technician (Engr/Phy Sci Tech III) in the Concrete & Physical Properties Program located in NE Denver. Job duties require the ACI and WAQTC technical certifications.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collect and process material samples and perform tests on construction materials in accordance with applicable ASTM and AASHTO standards for calibration of AASHTO s Mechanistic Empirical Pavement Design Program.
Interpret plans and specification requirements and acceptability of contract work.
Calibrate and run soil samples for Atterburg limits, moisture content, R-value, swell index, and gradation for the M-E Design program.
Calibrate and run asphalt samples for AMPT testing, binder, specific gravity, flow numbers, and creep compliance.
Audit each precast manufacturing plant on CDOT s Qualified Manufacturer List and determine if the company will be included on this list.
Visit the plants to observe the methods used for quality assurance of samples including records, machine calibrations, specimen storage, and disposal of samples.
Review all paperwork provided for any construction and manufactured materials being permanently incorporated into a project to ensure it meets CDOT and FHWA requirements (e.g., Buy America [BA] and Buy America Build America [BABA]).
Conduct training sessions concerning the BA and BABA requirements for CDOT personnel, local agencies, contractors, and consultants.
Annually review Quality System Manuals (QSMs) submitted by manufacturers on CDOTs Qualified Manufacturers List.
Maintain knowledge of concrete testing procedures and verify the company s quality assurance personal properly runs the testing equipment, the samples are properly taken and stored, and records are complete.
Other job duties as assigned.
