General Purpose

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, workers compensation, and 401(k) plan. This position continually investigates new benefit programs, improves existing programs, and monitors benefits administration.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the organization’s benefits programs, which may include retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, and insurance policies such as health, life and disability

  • Researching and analyzing compensation and benefits policies and plans to ensure they are current, competitive and grade positions for appropriate compensation

  • Works closely with management in the design and implementation of benefits plans and policies

  • Collaborate with insurance brokers and benefits carriers as assigned

  • Interact and collaborate with management and employees to resolve questions on benefits and compensation related issues.

  • Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and professional standards

  • Conducting and analyzing market trends surveys to benchmark the organization’s benefits and compensation packages

  • Collaborate with human resources team to implement benefits programs

  • Prepare detailed job descriptions and classification systems and define job levels and families

  • Partner with the employee engagement team to assess employees’ needs by conducting organizational surveys to find out what motivates and engages employees

  • Other duties as assigned

    Job Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws, such as FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, state and local laws

  • Knowledge of building salary scales and benefits packages and of job evaluation and job classification processes

    Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to create and report on data

  • Hands on experience with HRIS or payroll software.

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

    Ability:

  • Ability to set priorities while working in a team environment with limited resources.

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to recognize confidential, sensitive and proprietary information and maintain such information as confidential.

    Experience:

  • 4-6 years of benefits administration experience

    Competencies:

  • Relationship Management/Customer Service-Respond with a positive and welcoming disposition

  • Interpersonal Skills – Meet and greet all contacts in a welcoming manner

  • Basic computer/internet skills- Utilizing required software

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study. Comparable experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Certification is desired
