This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As the Blue Moon MK2 Crew Lander Lead Systems Engineer (LSE), you will report to the MK2 Sr. Director of Vehicle Development and support program execution for the MK2 Crew Lander. The LSE is responsible for leading the technical tasking across the vehicle systems engineering and integrated product teams to define and manage the technical architecture for the vehicle through the entire program lifecycle. This role additionally supports all aspects of technical leadership and team management to include accountability for and oversight of schedule, technical design, risk management and personnel management. You will also be expected to apply expertise to further improve on the implementation of systems engineering processes and teaming. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for tasking the technical team in the development of the vehicle system and associated products that meet mission objectives and satisfy requirements while balancing schedule, and risk. Apply heuristic and functional decomposition techniques to scope the design and development of the vehicle based on program objectives. Define and track system budgets and technical performance metrics throughout the program lifecycle. Monitor technical progress, requirements, system engineering budgets & schedules, deliverables, and risks, as well as review recommendations for change with program management. Able to review the technical work of other system and product teams, detect subtle flaws, and provide substantive design improvement recommendations. Able to quickly understand and report on a variety of technical tasks across the team relating but not limited to, configuration changes, technical risks, root cause failure assessments, waivers, and other variances against pla Own and execute the design reviews for the vehicle system to ensure design maturity at the appropriate level. Act as the negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests to ensure the optimization of the vehicle. Develop robust plans meeting deliverables and manage to the key operating metrics - including technical, schedule, and risk - reporting regularly to management and the team on progress.
