job summary:

A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Decatur, IL area. The Mechanical Engineer will support the Engine Installation and Cooling team for Off-Highway Trucks and Wheel Tractor Scrapers, focusing on design, development, troubleshooting, and integration of engine and cooling systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

work hours: 8am to 4pm

responsibilities:

  • Research and develop designs, manufacturing processes, testing, and validation of components, systems, and subsystems.

  • Investigate current designs and conceptual proposals, analyze specifications/requirements, and assess time/cost feasibility.

  • Investigate equipment failures and assembly concerns, diagnose faulty operations, and provide recommendations.

  • Perform root cause analysis for issues, conduct troubleshooting, and recommend solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing operations, product teams, and value chain teams.

  • Communicate design concepts and lead design reviews, supplier collaborations, and stakeholder updates.

  • Test and validate machine products using tools, equipment, or software (e.g., Creo, Teamcenter).

Skills:

  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.

  • Product development and design validation experience.

  • Mechanical aptitude for developing product concepts.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and deliver high-quality designs within deadlines.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering.

  • 5-7 years of progressive engineering experience.
