Asst. Maintenance Superintendent - Decatur East Plant Elevator A

Basic Function and Overview

The Assistant Maintenance Superintendent will utilize the tools of the Maintenance Management System to review and implement the maintenance activities designed to support the process equipment at the Decatur East Plant Elevator A facility. The Asst. Superintendent will be the liaison between Maintenance Teams,Operations, Engineering and Project Management Departments while implementing or executing planned and/or scheduled maintenance activities, also collaborating with Department Maintenance Planner to insure that job plans and schedules are accurate and executable. This role will also be responsible for monitoring the assigned maintenance activities and for assuring that planning, required parts, tools, PPE, permitting and other resources, to support the planned activities are readily available at the time of the job. The Assistant Maintenance Superintendent will train and be a mentor to the Maintenance work force to develop their skills, abilities, and to provide feedback to the workforce. The Asst. Superintendent is expected to support the use of the CMMS(Maximo) by assuring that work orders are closed with appropriate details and new work orders are generated based on the results of each work day.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements while assisting others on the team to do the same with an accidents are preventable attitude.

  • Perform as a team member while executing the planned, preventative, and/or predictive maintenance activities that support the reliability efforts of the Maintenance Department.

  • Utilize the Maintenance Management System to insure that assigned work orders are closed with appropriate details and new work orders are generated based on the day’s activities.

  • Maintains a thorough awareness of and may utilize manuals, publications and files required to address problems efficiently.

  • Review job requests to insure they are accurate and executable.

  • Diagnoses problems with control panels and related production equipment and makes repairs to or replaces such as required.

  • Train and/or mentor the work force to develop their skills and abilities.

  • Participate in the installation of new or modified equipment, insuring that equipment is operating effectively.

  • Maintains documentation of equipment relating to production processes.

  • Understands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in all safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.

  • May recommend the purchase of supplies and materials as required

  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions, such as hot and cold temperatures and dusty environment.

  • Climb stairs, some lifting, sit and stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, work with heights, bending, kneeling, and respirator qualified.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools and materials, and task specific sequencing required for maintenance and repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Prior use and interpretation of maintenance or facility maintenance union contracts and vendor contracts applicable to job task assignments.

  • Use of safety measures and the understanding of OSHA regulations for construction and trade work.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated proficient use of various computer programs.

  • Experience with interpreting blueprints, diagrams and manuals.

  • Accurate and acute written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to coach and mentor peers, and to share among peers newly found or developed skills, techniques and improvements.

  • Two year technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.

  • Previous leadership experience is helpful
