Ford Motor Company Quality Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

In this position...

As a key member of our team, you will develop and implement innovative solutions to improve the quality and performance of our exterior systems (sheet metal, frames, closures, latches, ornamentation and sealings). You'll provide essential engineering sign-off and lead the development of creative solutions for complex quality problems, directly impacting customer satisfaction.

What you'll do...

  • Communicate to the larger program and engineering teams the voice of the customer in terms of error states from quality history sources and desired user experience and content related features and changes.

  • Work with the Plant Vehicle Team(s), current model quality, manufacturing and Supplier Technical Assistance to identify and root cause top out going model or surrogate vehicle issues. Assess and facilitate fixes for these issues along with program approval and prevent reoccurrence actions as required.

  • Guide Ford engineering in adopting best practices for demonstrating design robustness and reliability.

  • Audit Design Verification Plans and Failure Mode Avoidance documents in support of Chief Engineering Sign-Off and communicate issues & resolution to Chiefs and Directors.

  • Support cross-functional team to create robust plans in support of Program Milestone Declarations.

  • Extract and analyze current and historical quality data using Ford internal quality databases to identify design, process, and product content opportunities to improve quality for our forward models.

  • Develop and maintain exterior function quality metric (JDP IQS PP100, QNPS NPL, R1000) road maps for North America led vehicle programs that demonstrate a plan to meet program targets.

  • Assess quality impact for launching programs.

  • Drive design rule and Critical to Quality health chart program compliance and improvements using exterior systems background / knowledge and leveraging engineering SMEs.

  • Participate in customer clinics by understanding customer concerns and then communicate them to the appropriate team that can address them.

  • Conduct competitive analysis to confirm and/or develop Best-in-Class performance standards.

  • Close the quality feedback loop between current model issues and forward model planning.

You'll have...

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering

  • 3+ years of auto industry experience

  • Experience applying FMA disciplines (DFMEA, P-Diagrams, Boundary Diagrams).

  • Experience working in problem solving.

  • Proactive work ethic with positive attitude is key.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel to assembly plants, supplier sites and competitive analysis.

  • Ability to communicate and interact well with cross-functional teams.

This position is a range of salary grades 6, 7 and 8.
