Summary

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Michigan-Dearborn invites applications for the position of Professor of Practice. This non-tenure track appointment is designed for distinguished practitioners who have made significant contributions to the field of electrical, computer, and/or robotics engineering. The successful candidate will bring real-world engineering experience into our academic environment, enhancing our teaching and learning through practical, application-oriented education. The effort level for the appointment may be variable and will be determined based on need and/or mutual agreement.

Responsibilities*

  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with faculty members to develop and update curriculum that reflects the current trends and needs of the industry, ensuring that our programs remain cutting-edge and relevant.

  • Student Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and advisor to senior design students, guiding them in their academic and professional development, and preparing them for successful careers in engineering.

  • Industry Collaboration: Leverage industry connections to facilitate partnerships, internships, and collaborative projects that enhance the educational experience and prepare students for real-world challenges.

  • Teaching Excellence: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ECE. Areas of instruction may include, but are not limited to, digital and analog circuits, embedded systems, signal processing, telecommunications, and power systems.

Required Qualifications*

  • A master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field; a doctoral degree is preferred but not required.

  • A minimum of 20 years of professional experience in the electrical and computer engineering industry, with a demonstrated record of achievement and leadership. Prior teaching experience is advantageous, but not required.

  • A passion for education and the ability to convey complex technical information in an accessible manner is essential.

  • Strong connections within the ECE industry in Southeast Michigan and the ability to engage in meaningful collaborations between the university and industry.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and industry partners.
