Ford Motor Company Power Conversion Charging System Test Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

In this position…

The System Test Engineer will work closely with many teams including, but not limited to, the supplier, application engineering, software engineers, requirement authors, test sites, EVSE manufacturers and vehicle programs to ensure the design functions as intended and meets all requirements.

What you'll do…

  • Lead BCCM, OBCC and combo BCCM/DCDC/OBCC module delivery for next generation PHEVs and BEVs from a testing and prove out perspective

  • Use data acquisition tools (CANalyzer, Diagnostic Engineering Tool [DET], Wireshark / Mstar, breakout box) to help collect data and troubleshoot charging related problems to get to root cause

  • Work closely with requirement authors on reviewing new requirements for the Interfacing Feature Specification (IFS) and developing test plans that will be used to prove the SW meets the requirements

  • On new PHEV/BEV programs, help maintain core quality documents for the BCCM such as DFMEA, boundary diagram, interface matrix, Significant & Critical Characteristics Approval Form (SCCAF), DVPR, etc.

  • Work with the BCCM software engineer and Calibration team to ensure software (OBDII module) is tested on time to support GPDS milestones per the whitepaper certification process

  • Help lead root cause investigations and present to EPE management team the status of resolving issues via the 5D/8D process

  • Use the electrical Device Transmittal (DT) to help troubleshoot electrical issues and resolve DTCs

  • Analyze data to resolve AC charging and DCFC issues with Level One, Two and Three EVSEs and other modules involved in the AC charging process

  • Benchmark competitive vehicles vs. Ford EV products from a HW/ charging performance perspective

  • Review Analytical Warranty System (AWS) data and Quench / Cloud data DTCs to identify areas where actions are required to improve quality

You'll have…

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME)

  • Experience with vehicle level electrical system design and development

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple cross functional teams in a vehicle program

Even better, you may have…

  • 2+ years experience with vehicle level electrical system design and development

  • Electrical component design and release and/or electrical systems engineering experience desired

  • Knowledge of Ford design & release process

  • Knowledge of electric vehicles at the system or component level

  • Familiarity with data acquisition tools such as Ford DET and Vector CANalyzer for data collection/analysis

  • Knowledge of charging standards (e.g., SAE J1772, IEC15118)

  • Project management/organization skills

  • Proven ability to find root cause analysis on complex electrical systems

This position is a range of salary grades 6-8 .
