Job Summary

The Department of Health and Human Services at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor (100% appointment) who specializes in healthcare administration. We are seeking applicants in the areas of health services and policy research, delivery system and payment policy, and healthcare management. The faculty member will teach a variety of courses in our newly launched Master of Science in Healthcare Administration & Leadership Program. This program will be transitioning to a fully online program in Fall 2025. Depending on the applicant?s background and expertise, they may also be asked to teach courses that support our master?s in health information technology. Candidates who have a completed Ph.D. in a discipline related to health administration, including but not limited to, public health, health services, policy analysis, relevant social sciences (health economics, political science, sociology), or related areas are encouraged to apply.

Teaching

The preferred candidate will have teaching strengths that support courses such as Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Leadership, US Health and Medical Systems, Financing Health and Medical Systems, and Health Policy. The potential to develop additional courses in the candidate?s area of expertise are available.

Research

Clinical-track faculty are not expected to maintain an active scholarship portfolio.

Service

All HHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CEHHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Dearborn and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions. Engagement in service activities at multiple levels is required. The quality and impact of service contributions is more important than the number of different service activities.

Term of appointment

Clinical instructional track appointments will be without tenure. The first appointment will be for a minimum of one year to a maximum of three years. The subsequent reappointment may be for a period of up to three years.

Required Qualifications*

  • Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in healthcare administration and/or management, public health, health services, policy analysis, relevant social sciences (health economics, political science, sociology), or related areas are encouraged to apply.

  • Persons who are ABD and will complete their doctoral degree by August 15, 2024 are eligible to apply.

  • Minimum one year of experience as a practitioner/instructor

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching

  • Evidence of professional development

  • Record of service contributions in their clinical setting and/or profession

The campus is located on 200 acres of the original Henry Ford Estate. Dearborn is centrally located within one of America's largest business regions.
