Job Description:
This position is located in the Division of Blind Services at the Career, Technology, and Training Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, (CTTC) located in Daytona Beach. This position will provide routine cleaning of the buildings and grounds and provide maintenance assistance and support. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill morning, evening, and weekend shifts. Due to the 24/7 nature of the operations at the campus, these shifts could be subject to change to best fill vacancies.
This position may work up to 40 hours with potential eligibility to health insurance benefits.
Examples of Work:
Performs routine cleaning of the buildings. These duties will include but will not be limited to: cleaning water fountains, doors, kick-plates, walls, floors, switch plates, windows, and countertops.
Cleans restrooms which will include sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and floors. Removes trash and restocks all restrooms supplies. Ensures all areas are sanitized daily with the proper chemical compound used.
Has the ability to understand and take directions from supervisor; recognizes problems or potential problems and communicates those findings to the supervisor.
Performs grounds keeping duties as needed.
Keeps entrances, entrance mats, and sidewalks clean and safe around the exterior of the buildings.
Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as but will not be limited to: gloves, eye goggles, respirators, etc.
Be able to interpret and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), chemical usages, follow recommended dilution ratios, and proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
Performs other duties as required.
General Responsibilities:
Keeps track of inventory parts on hand for all repairs and/or replacements. Requests parts to be ordered on an as needed basis.
Maintains, tracks, and is responsible for tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring their availability and making sure they are in safe operating condition.
Assist with the authorized moving of office furniture, equipment, and other property as needed.
Perform inspections and identify possible safety hazards in or around buildings using the correct procedures to correct these hazards.
Perform routine inspections of fire safety equipment such as extinguishers, safety lights, and detectors.
This position requires the incumbent to have a complete understanding and working knowledge of all safety procedures and regulations.
Adheres to safety awareness policies in the workplace, views safety videos when presented, and attends required safety meetings. Practices lessons learned daily to avoid accidents.
Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites and individual working spaces.
Records and updates completed work orders and other information on a daily activity report and updates the site maintenance logbooks as required.
Responsible for the care, maintenance, and inventory of all supplies and equipment owned by the Division of Blind Services.
Has the ability to read and understand blueprints.
Assists in semi-annual fire drills.
Other Miscellaneous Duties:
Assist outside contractors and others as needed and oerform minor maintenence repairs as directed.
Carry ladders and other equipment; do touch-up painting and minor carpentry.
Change light bulbs, lighting ballasts, switches, receptacles, etc.
Perform maintenance on floors and carpet, as well as carpet cleaning machines and grounds keeping equipment.
Perform maintenance on air conditioning systems, change filters, and maintain maintenance logs.
Assist with the maintenance of hardware, doors, windows, restroom fixtures, and perform minor carpet repairs.
Plumbing duties will include but will not be limited to: unclogging drains, repair of flush valves, repair of commodes, sinks, urinals, and drinking fountains.
Work on doors, door closures, door hinges, and door locks.
Complete all necessary paperwork associated with maintenance duties.
Assist the Maintenance Superintendent with monitoring or adjusting the Energy Management, Fire Protection, and Security Systems.
Assist in the maintenance of all fleet vehicles.
Perform all lifting duties in accordance with safe lifting guidelines to ensure limited risk of injury to self, others, and to prevent property damage.
Has the ability to read and understand blueprints.
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures and methods used in cleaning, floor care, and handling of chemicals and cleaners.
Knowledge of procedures/methods used in building, mechanical and fire equipment maintenance or operation.
Skill in using power tools.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience with general custodial responsibilities.
One year of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, or plumbing, mechanical or fire equipment.
