Montgomery County Sewer And Water Worker (OMJ/MC) in Dayton, Ohio

Intermediate skill level classification requiring considerable knowledge of materials movement equipment and tools; methods, procedures and equipment used in water and sewer line servicing and maintenance; under direction, operates equipment for the transport/movement of bulk or containerized materials and large-scale grounds maintenance operations and performs skilled and manual work in the installation and repair of county water or sewer lines.

Summary of Job Duties

  • Work and assist in operating equipment such as combination vacuum/high pressure sewer cleaning trucks, hydro excavation machines, sewer cleaning easement machine, crane style truck, sewer rodder, golf cart, ATV utility vehicle, various size dump trucks, and various style loaders with associated attachments for operations associated with construction and maintenance of water and sewer assets.
  • Work and assist with hydraulic tools, water loss, smoke/dye, and acoustic data gathering equipment, air hammer, tapping/valve insertion machines, powered hand tools and other related equipment.
  • Assist in setting up work plans, daily tasks for crew; participates with work crews in the installation, maintenance, or replacement of water or sewer lines and components; provides technical assistance as necessary, ensures on-site safety of crew and general public. Assists in different types of restoration, such as pavement, concrete, manholes, and lawns to original condition.
  • Responds to on-site customer complaints regarding water or sewer service and related problems; prepares daily electronic records and reports; performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment, requests repairs and servicing of equipment; completes inspections/inventory lists and associated documentation for equipment and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to high school diploma; At least 2 years' experience working as a manual laborer, general mechanic, general construction -AND- at least one (1) year of sewer or water systems construction and maintenance including one (1) year experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the indicated equipment; -OR- equivalent combination of education, certification, training or experience in construction/utility related field. valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL - A) with tanker endorsements; must pass Department of Transportation physical exam; Must take the Operator Training Committee of Ohio (OTCO) Class (all new hires) within 12 months of hire. OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements. Major Worker Characteristics
