BlueHalo Research Scientist – Polymer Theory and Simulation in DAYTON, Ohio

OVERVIEW

BlueHalo has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The research project will focus on using molecular simulations, theory, and machine learning to investigate equilibrium structure-property relationships and nonequilibrium processing (e.g., flow, phase separation) of various polymer materials. A background in polymer science, rheology, and high-performance computing (e.g., using GPUs), coupled with strong communication skills is desired for this role. 

 

This position is open to full remote work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Research Scientist will work closely with AFRL scientists as well as professors, students, staff, and industry collaborators to investigate processing behavior polymer materials for Air Force applications.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
  • Master's or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in polymer modeling (constitutive models, field theory, molecular dynamics simulations, etc.) (inclusive of academic experience)
  • 1+ years of experience in machine learning techniques (supervised/unsupervised, regression/classification, etc.) (inclusive of academic experience)
  • Strong statistics and data analysis background
  • Programming skills in at least one of the following: Python, C, C++, Julia, R
  • Experience with one or more of the following preferred: High-performance computing (CUDA programming), Linear and Nonlinear Rheology, Phase Behavior of Polymer Solutions and Blends
