Agricultural Research Service Student Trainee (Office Automation) in Davis, California

Summary This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), at the Obesity & Metabolism Research Unit, in Davis, CA. In this position, you will be responsible for providing clerical support such as using office automation software packages to create and edit a variety of standard documents. This is a Pathways Intern appointment with a not to exceed of 1 year. Responsibilities Receives, reviews, and routes incoming mail to office staff. Maintains and purges office files, directives, and reference materials. Types final, error-free documents, ensuring correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and grammar. Sends, receives, and distributes electronic mail and telephone FAX documents. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. PATHWAYS ELIGIBILITY All applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time schedule at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. GS-04 Education: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an Associate's degree. Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Education You must submit a copy of your college transcripts. An unofficial copy is sufficient with the application if it includes your name and the necessary course information; however, if you are selected, you will be required to submit official transcripts prior to entering on duty. Education must have been successfully obtained from an accredited school, college or university. If any education was completed at a foreign institute, you must submit with your application evidence that the institute was appropriately accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as equivalent to U.S. education standards. All transcripts must be in English or include an English translation. Additional Information This is a temporary, excepted service position not-to-exceed 1 year or less and may be extended in increments not-to-exceed 1 or less for up to 8 years in total, when the student intern remains eligible for the program. Student Interns must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of the appointment. Incumbents will be required to provide proof of continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout the internship program. Failure to do so will result in termination of the appointment. Upon completion of all program requirements, Pathways Interns may be converted to a term, career-conditional or career appointment within 120 days following successful completion of all their education; however, conversion is not guaranteed. The full performance level (FPL) of the position to which converted may be up to the GS-04 level. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements. Within-grade increases will not be given during the internship.
