T. Parker Host E-Crane Deckhand in Davant, Louisiana

In 2019, T. Parker Host acquired United Bulk Terminals (UBT) on Mile 55 of the Mississippi River as one of the largest bulk terminals in the U.S. Gulf, specializing in coal and petcoke. This 1,200 acre property in Davant, Louisiana is capable of extensive loading, discharging and storage – with deep-water docks, fleeting capacity for 500 barges and over 40 pieces of heavy equipment to handle cargo loads.

Since the acquisition, HOST has made extensive improvements in systems and equipment, making the facility safer, more environmentally friendly, and more efficient to better serve our customers.

Position Summary: In this position, the team member will work under the supervision of E-Crane Operator/E-Crane Team Lead, and Terminal Supervision to assist and or operate all terminal equipment to safely and efficiently load/unload cargo from ships and barges as per the operating plans and instructions; Operate as a member of a team, responsible for coordinating information flow between each crew member and location staff/management in the loading/unloading of cargo.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

[OPERATIONS FUNCTIONS]

· Strictly adhere to Terminal Specific Procedures (TSP) associated with floating E-Crane(s) and all associated equipment to load and/or discharge cargo safely and efficiently from ships and/or barges as per the operating plan and instructions.

· Operates heavy mobile equipment such as bulldozers, excavators and front end loaders.

· Inspect and operate safely all assigned mobile equipment as required to complete loading and unloading work assignments.

· Responsible for rigging equipment and materials to repair and maintain the floating, mobile and fixed terminal equipment.

· Operates Front End Loaders in barges to get all cargo out of barges to the required cleanliness.

[MAINTENANCE]

· Reports any unusual condition of equipment to E-Crane Operator; Responsible for checking equipment for damage or repairs needed and reporting that information.

· Make regular inspections of the equipment and perform minor maintenance tasks such as adjusting and lubricating equipment, cleaning, washing, descaling, testing, replacing filters, gauges, valves, hoses, and other minor maintenance as necessary to maximize port systems availability and reliability.

· Performs minor maintenance tasks such as repairing, adjusting and lubricating equipment, gauges, valves, hoses, and etc. as necessary to maximize machine availability/reliability and assist maintenance personnel as required.

· Painting and chipping on both E-Crane barges.

· Maintaining a clean work area on the E-Crane barges. I.E. sweeping, shoveling, and washing the deck.

[ADMINISTRATION]

· Maintains and reports accurate records including beginning of shift work place inspections, shift logs and shift performance report at the end of each shift.

· Complies with governmental, state, and company certification standards.

· Performs all duties assigned by the superintendent to make sure port operations continue without interruption.

[SAFETY]

· Works closely, as needed, with E-Crane Operator when making lifts or rigging equipment or material in all weather conditions.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

· HS diploma / GED and crane experience, especially equilibrium cranes, is preferred

· Heavy machinery experience is preferred

· Decking experience is preferred

· Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and writing

· Valid driver’s license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required

· Ability to work outside in all types of weather

· Ability to work at heights (i.e. not afraid of heights)

· Must be available to work varied hours, shifts including days/nights/weekends/holidays as required

Physical Requirements:

· Must meet physical, mental and dexterity requirements of the job including being physically able to climb and descend ladders and stairs to access the all levels of the ships, barges and crane equipment.

· Must be physically able to pull ropes for tying up ship/barges and utilize hand shovels and other tools for cleanup.

· Ability to work in all weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at times

· Flexibility to adjust to changing shift work which may require early mornings, evenings and weekends

· Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
