Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring for a Facilities Manager -Corporate Engineering. Corporate Engineering (CE) supports the corporation’s manufacturing, distribution, and administrative facilities. Although based primarily in Dalton, GA, CE is deployed on projects both domestically and internationally. The department offers feasibility studies, high-level and detailed budget estimates, engineering design, project management, consulting, forensic investigations, and CAD services. CE includes specialists to meet the needs of each business segment, divided into four support groups: Fibers & Yarn, Carpet & Backing, Hard Surfaces, and Construction & Global Facilities. The staff comprises mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers, construction project managers, CAD designers, and administrative personnel.

Position Overview: 

The Facilities Manager position is within the Corporate Engineering Construction and Global Facilities Team. The position reports to the Global Facilities Manager. The team supports facilities and departments across the organization. The Facilities Manager will manage the daily operations of the facilities, including coordinating building maintenance and preventative maintenance, directing systems repairs, and managing external vendors. The position is also responsible for developing and executing capital and expense projects with limited direction and utilizing project management tools to ensure projects meet safety, performance, and budget requirements. The position requires close coordination with CE leadership, corporate partners, internal departments, and outside agencies.

Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure the day-to-day operations of the facilities, including custodial, life-safety, engineering, site services, and general maintenance, are implemented and carried out in a professional manner working with Shaw Technical Services team members.

  • Supervise all maintenance relating to the interior and exterior conditions and appearance of the properties

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, ensuring quality service delivery and compliance with contractual agreements.

  • Respond positively and promptly to requests from building occupants and team leadership.

  • Assist in the development and management of the annual operating and capital budgets.

  • Possess fundamental knowledge of building systems including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and security systems.

  • Lead space planning, allocation and management for assigned facilities.

  • Ability to manage facility management activities and project work simultaneously.

  • Manage construction projects primarily focused on administrative spaces.

  • Deliver quality projects on time and on budget.

  • Drive architectural design, engineering and construction efforts for capital and expense projects in facility portfolio.

  • Manage all phases of projects including project kick-off, scheduling, design, construction, administration, and budgets.

  • Coordinate all internal and external resources with subcontractors, vendors, consultants of multiple projects at one time.

  • Ability to read construction and other technical drawings.

  • Knowledge of furniture product specifications and installation methods.

  • Participate and support efforts regarding initiatives for Corporate Engineering.

  • Submit monthly expense reports related to travel.

  • Manage and report expenses via purchasing card software application.

Requirements:   

  • 4-year Construction Management/Architecture/Engineering/Business Administration degree and two (2) years facilities management experience, OR high school diploma with six (6) years equivalent experience. Project management experience preferred.

  • Superior interpersonal and verbal communication skills to successfully interact with project stakeholders, partners, vendors and leadership.

  • Excellent practical knowledge of facility operations.

  • Possess excellent written skills for producing specifications, project reports and communications with internal stakeholders and external vendors.

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately budget, track, and control operational and project costs.

  • Knowledge of International Building Code, Life Safety Code, ADA, and NFPA fire system requirements preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc), Smartsheet. Other construction and / or facilities management software experience desired.

  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM), International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) industry certifications desired.
