Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring a Category Manager who will be responsible for all category activities within their spend areas. These activities include developing annual plans and sourcing strategies that will drive best in class management of spend areas. This role is in charge of driving year-over-year total value improvement/savings for the company. The Category Manager will lead and perform supplier and category management activities. This role will need to dig in to uncover key data and information that can be analyzed and developed into insights that inform fact-based decision-making.

The role will collaborate significantly with resources and business partners throughout Shaw who are internal business partners. An important aspect of this role is developing highly collaborative trusting relationships and influential roles with their business partners. Being aware and in tune with the goals of the business is critical to ensure proper alignment and support with the business unit resources. Being able to influence business partners is critical for this person to be successful in the role. This role must have a high degree of customer service orientation. A successful candidate will be adept at understanding the situation and how that ties to business objectives and adjust strategies to deliver results.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage annual spend of approximately $100+ millions of assigned categories.

  • Commit company funds based on authorized user requirements, company policies and ethical standards

  • Facilitate the negotiation strategy for each area of managed spend

  • Facilitate and drive strategic supplier utilization

  • Maintain a level of expertise in an assigned category or categories while remaining current on industry best practices by participating in research, building relationships and conducting supplier site audits.

  • Manage the overall resolution of quality or non-conformance issues

  • Recognize issues which hinder the achievement of the sourcing process and use industry expertise and sourcing knowledge to identify novel, creative and realistic solutions to problems

  • Analyzing spend data and other resources to identify savings opportunities and uncover additional insights.

  • Create efficiencies in the Procurement or Sourcing Model

  • Interact with suppliers to manage the day-to-day supplier relationship and execute the defined strategy for the category

  • Communicating with functional department leadership to highlight potential savings opportunities, understand the requirements of the business, and support decision-making.

  • Leverage Shaw’s organizational structure to effectively channel communications.

  • Attend trade shows routinely to remain current on industry developments

  • Be embedded in the business

QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Finance, Logistics, Inventory, or Engineering

  • 3+ years of sourcing and procurement experience (including negotiating experience) with similar categories of spend, in an organization of similar size and scope

  • Demonstrated experience operating systems directly related to procurement or sourcing models (i.e., MRP/ERP) and possess the ability to select the appropriate system(s) to create efficiencies in the Procurement or Sourcing Model

  • Experienced with sourcing systems and processes

  • Local and domestic overnight travel is required

PREFERENCES:

  • Professional Certification in a Supply Chain Related Area (i.e. C.P.M., CPSM, CPIM, etc.)
