Job Summary
The purpose of this role, working with the BL Engineering & Technology, Business Development, and Operational partners, is to ensure that GKN’s future offering to its customers has the best Industrial solution to give the business the edge over its competitors. The Industrial Architect will design the manufacturing system in the pre LG3 phase to maximise the appropriate use of technologies and methods to help deliver a winning business case. This role also provides transition and guidance, including coordination and alignment, for industrial strategy across the business line through all program life cycles. It is also a vital role in terms of building strong technical relationships with our current and future customer portfolio.
Job Responsibilities
Design of the manufacturing system prior to LG3. This includes full understanding of the customers’ requirements, designing the factory layout, leverage of H1 & H2 technologies, deploying lean manufacturing principles when considering TAKT and flow. Delivering tooling solutions etc.
Close engagement with the Chief Engineer and other partners on design build programs to ensure Design For Manufacturing.
Delivering the Industrialization concepts within the bid process including both recurring and nonrecurring for the industrial solution.
Ensure a smooth transition from the design phase (pre LG3) to the Industrialization phase (post LG3) within the Operational side of the business and its Industrialization manager.
Work closely with the program Chief Manufacturing Engineers and other key internal partners to ensure the Industrial concept is capable in the post LG3 to LG7 phase.
Monitoring and providing input to the capital planning, industrial strategy, and sustainability planning for the business line in coordination with the Business Transformation organization.
Build strong relationships with our current and potential customers.
Manage the control of GKN intellectual property where required.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or other related degree field, OR additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree
Strong Technical Aerospace Manufacturing background in Manufacturing Engineering or Technical Operations with >2 yrs. working in New Product Introductions
Previous experience in program and project management.
Must be a US Persons (US Citizen, Green Card Holder / US permanent resident, refugee or asylee) to meet export control compliance requirements
Ability to travel (including internationally) as and when the role dictates.
Additional Qualifications:
Professional persona capable of communicating and building relationships with our customers and internal organizations
Proven self-starter who can work well within a team or on their own.
Practical understanding of the Zero-Defect framework (APQP/PPAP)8 years Manufacturing Engineering or Technical Operations industry experience with >3 yrs. working in New Product Introductions
Experience deploying Zero Defect tools. (APQP/PPAP)
Understanding of EN/AS9100 and part 21sub part G requirements
Knowledge of HSE requirements
