Job Title: Senior Project AccountantJob Description
The Senior Project Accountant will serve as the primary Accounting liaison for the project team, customers, and vendors. Responsibilities include ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis to project teams and management. Assigned projects and accounting duties will range from moderate to high in complexity.
Responsibilities
Review the construction contract requirements for assigned projects
Understand the relevant components of the geographic area of the project (i.e. sales/use tax)
Monitor customer and subcontractor contract amounts and change orders in CMiC
Prepare and reconcile project billings, ensuring all allowable costs are billed in a timely manner
Follow up on customer invoices over 45 days and document issues/comments in CMiC
Maintain working knowledge of construction industry forms and documents for accounting purposes
Code and process subcontractor and supplier invoices timely, verifying approval
Review equipment pre-bill reports and work with Project Manager to ensure accuracy
Understand project costs and identify anything improperly charged to a project
Ensure all project costs are processed timely
Prepare/review journal entries as necessary
Review non-billable costs with Project Manager to see if any can be billed
Collect and track subcontractor lien waivers, for all applicable Tiers
Ensure completed projects are closed out timely, following the close documents
Prepare monthly account reconciliations
Prepare information for internal financial reports
Support development and implementation of accounting systems and processes
Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers
Mentor Project Accountants, contributing to their professional development
Be available to lead meetings in the absence of Manager
Serve as a resource for PM team in all project-related questions
View every interaction as an opportunity to add value and enhance relationships
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned
Essential Skills
5+ years of Project Accounting/Accounting experience
Experience in the Construction Industry
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel (Pivot Tables / VLOOKUP)
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business
Strong knowledge of GAAP & AIA
Strong problem-solving skills
Basic accounting principles knowledge
Documentation skills
Research and resolution skills
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot Tables / VLOOKUP)
Experience with job costing, cost analysis, reconciliation, month-end processes, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, journal entries, QuickBooks, AIA documents, and lien releases
Ability to prepare balance sheet analysis
Work Environment
The position is based in an office environment in Dallas, with in-office work required 5 days a week. There is potential for flexibility after 6 months of training. The office has about 50 people, while the accounting team is based in Minnesota. You will meet with the Minnesota team virtually and potentially travel to Minnesota once a quarter. The total Accounting and Finance team consists of about 20 people. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $50.48/hr.
