Pastoral Care Associate

Pastoral Care Associate PRN Highlights

Here’s What You Need

Education

Bachelor's Degree REQUIRED or

Will accept 4 years of experience in ministerial or congregational care in lieu of a Bachelor's degree REQUIRED

Master's Degree Master's of Divinity, Theology, or related degree from a Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) accredited theological school 72-hour degree program preferred

Experience

4 Years Without a Bachelor's degree - 4 years of experience in congregational pastoral care REQUIRED

With a Bachelor's degree - no previous experience required REQUIRED and

Experience in congregational or hospital setting preferred and

1 unit of CPE from an ACPE-accredited center (must be completed within 2 years of employment) REQUIRED

Skills

Good communication skills, both written and oral. Competency in basic computer use and electronic communication tools, e.g., email, calendar.

Ability to work with and relate to people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to offer non-anxious presence and work with people during a time of crisis and bereavement, offering compassionate care.

Proficiently document patient care in the electronic medical record and demonstrate this proficiency.

Ability to offer religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and/or staff. When appropriate, ability to refer to outside clergy to meet patient sacramental or religious rites needs.

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that supports various entities/locations based upon patient volumes and operational needs.

What You Will Do

Patient care:

Provide professional pastoral and spiritual care to patients and their loved ones, using excellent listening, observational, assessment, and interventional skills. Assess patient and family spiritual resources and vulnerabilities, offering corresponding interventions. Document care in electronic medical record, using Pastoral Care standardized processes. Ability to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes. Provide on-call report when called into the hospital.

Support Pastoral Care Department:

Report payroll exceptions promptly. Participate in Pastoral Care staff meetings. Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Pastoral Care Department policies and procedures. Complete required Pastoral Care Department training and any MyTalent modules when assigned. When providing in-house coverage, participate in the ritual life of the hospital, e.g., FINAL SALUTES, memorial services, award ceremonies, and other similar celebrations and special events within the hospital. Perform other duties as assigned.
