Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator - Sanitation handles large equipment at the landfill such as, motor graders, excavators, dozers, compactors, articulating dump trucks, etc. to contribute to the daily operations of the landfill and serve the citizens of the surrounding areas.

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator - Sanitation handles large equipment at the landfill such as, motor graders, excavators, dozers, compactors, articulating dump trucks, etc. to contribute to the daily operations of the landfill and serve the citizens of the surrounding areas.

Essential Functions

1 Operates an off-road truck to haul, move, and spread dirt, mulch, crushed concrete, and other materials to their desired locations within the landfill.

2 Handles additional heavy equipment when necessary to improve road services, spread garbage, build berms, sweep roads, and dig postholes.

3 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and safety procedures.

2 Knowledge of hazardous materials, risks, and protective actions.

3 Knowledge of functions and capabilities of different types of mechanical and vehicular equipment.

4 Ability to collaborate and work in a team.

5 Ability to train, instruct, and guide new employees in a professional manner.

6 Ability to climb, lift, and sit for long periods of time.

7 Communicating effectively and in writing.

8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment OR off-road equipment used in excavation, construction, landfill, or waste collections (e.g. compactor, motor grader, bulldozer, excavator).
