Position: Director, Corporate ESG

Job Description:

Forward is seeking a Director of Corporate ESG to support our rapidly evolving environment, social, and governance (ESG) needs. The Director of Corporate ESG will lead Forward Air's efforts to integrate environmental, social, and governance principles into our business strategy. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs that support Forward Air's commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and ethical business practices. The successful candidate will work directly with the Sr. Leadership team to develop and implement strategies and initiatives.

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Support the annual reporting requirements of Forward’s ESG initiative

  • Manage 1-2 teammates directly

  • Advance Forward Air's ESG strategy in alignment with business objectives and stakeholder expectations

  • Monitor and report on ESG trends, regulations, and opportunities for improvement

  • Lead the preparation of Forward Air's ESG reports, ensuring transparency and accuracy in disclosures

  • Collaborate with various departments to integrate ESG considerations into operations, decision-making, and reporting

  • Engage with investors, customers, and employees to communicate Forward Air's ESG commitments and progress

  • Oversee initiatives to reduce environmental impact, support community development, and maintain high standards of governance and ethics

  • Collaborate with the business leaders on all facets of related data

  • Oversee, update, and maintain high-quality data using various internal systems

  • Identify third party partnerships; establish and maintain relationships with internal departments

  • Understand our evolving business needs and how our current data meets those needs; identify, evaluate, and recommend complementary data sets

  • Perform quality control to ensure data accuracy

  • Analyze internal processes to identify opportunities for improvement, as well as devise and implement innovative solutions

  • Strategize visualization tools to support reporting needs

  • Design workflow configurations for critical functions such as external reporting, worklist management, and initiative implementation

  • Build ESG subject matter expertise and technical skills to generate premium content

  • Stay informed about sustainability frameworks and trends that support strategy & reporting including SASB, GRI, SBTi, CDP

  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, business, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or corporate social responsibility roles

  • Previous ESG experience in transportation or supply chain industries

  • Strong understanding of ESG reporting standards and frameworks

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Ability to analyze data and trends to inform strategic decisions

  • Interest in ESG / sustainability

  • Familiarity with sustainability or similar data collection, reporting software’s such as Metrio

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

  • Experience with a public company a plus

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal with a variety of stakeholders

  • Proven ability to successfully drive projects to completion
