Amazon Aviation Security Manager in Dallas, Texas

The Amazon Aviation Security (AvSec) team is looking for an enthusiastic leader to join the team as an AvSec Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance within Amazon’s transportation supply chain involving AIR operations as company-owned and third-party (3P) locations. The candidate will execute AvSec’s Security Assurance program to monitor all operations functions concerning regulatory compliance, brand protection, conformance to policies & procedures, and effectiveness of controls. This position interfaces with individuals at all levels of the AvSec organization, internal customers, and third-party providers to drive continuous improvement of security within Amazon Air (AIR) operations at Amazon.

Key job responsibilities

• Collecting, analyzing, and reporting operational data

• Evaluating compliance to governmental regulations, adopted standards, company policy, and industry best practices

• Evaluating physical locations, documented programs, mechanisms, and controls

• Assisting stakeholders in identifying determining the root cause to identified discrepancies and crafting sustainable and scalable mitigations

• Identifying chronic and endemic non-conformity/compliance

• Monitoring corrective actions to completion and verification of efficacy

• Receiving and analyzing data from AvSec’s Security Management Systems (SeMS) and providing inputs to SeMS

• Assisting with investigations as required

The Span of Authority for this role may include span of control between multiple facilities within a geographic region. This will include: supporting operational leadership, managing complex problems, decisions, and escalations, as well as, developing long-term risk mitigation and a path forward in difficult situations.

Eligibility Qualifications:

• This role is regulated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and may be subject to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements. Successful candidates must, therefore, complete all screenings prescribed by the TSA and the U.S. CBP.

• Individuals hired into this position will have unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA). For this reason, eligibility for this role will be limited to individuals who pass a security screening, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and TSA (as applicable).

• The successful candidate must be able to travel domestically or internationally up to 75% of the time.

• This position requires an employee’s full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute their job duties to ensure the safety and security of Amazon AIR personnel, third-party contractors, Airport personnel, cargo, and equipment. This position is therefore designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and, where permitted, post-hire drug testing.

A day in the life

In this role, you will complete assessments and gather data to evaluate the health and efficacy of Amazon’s AvSec programs. Using a combination of performance data, knowledge of aviation regulations & standards, and experience, you will identify areas of opportunity and use the Security Assurance program and SeMS to mitigate risks. You will rely on data you collect and that is provided by others. You must be flexible, and able to change direction to work on matters with the addressing the greatest regulatory and brand risks to the business. You will work with stakeholders across AvSec to execute the Security Assurance program, generate reports, and escalate unresolved issues. You will visit operations often to collect data.

The Amazon AvSec team is responsible for regulatory compliance, security, and loss prevention across Amazon’s aviation operations. The organization has four core pillars: Security Management Systems, Programs, Security Operations, and Credentialing. The organization is committed to identifying and mitigating risk to people, Amazon assets, the Amazon brand, and regulatory compliance through developing, implementing, and continuously improving best-in-class aviation security procedures, standards, and guardrails between which Amazon operates. By supporting our customer teams across Amazon’s aviation operations to implement process improvements, mitigate risk, resolve equipment issues, and implement new processes to improve performance, AvSec contributes to the safe and secure transportation of air cargo to our customers.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or 3+ years of experience in a security related field.

• 3+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following disciplines: corporate security management, transportation/supply chain operations (airline ops), FAA/TSA interaction or aviation security.

• Experience with all Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field or MBA.

• 5+ years of Aviation Regulatory Security Compliance experience, specifically TSA, FAA, and U.S CBP.

• 5+ years of experience conducting workplace risk investigations.

• Strong leadership skills and knowledge; ability to influence change and drive desired outcomes in a matrixed organization.

• Ability to independently manage through ambiguity and handle changing priorities, to effectively prioritize, multitask, and exercise good judgment.

• Analytical leader experienced in performance based, action and results-oriented management, strong project manager and effective problem solver.

• Ability to assess risks and challenge current practices to develop and deliver innovative solutions to meet or exceed the customer expectations.

• Experience with process improvements (Lean process, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma).

• Experience with physical security control and surveillance systems.

• Interviewing and Interrogation experience or workplace investigation certification (e.g. Wicklander-Zulawski certification).

• Workplace Violence and/or Business Continuity experience.
