Job Description:

Reporting to the director, the assistant director will plan, organize and coordinate services, activities, and programs related to military-affiliated students. The assistant director will advise student veterans and connect them to campus and community resources. The position requires knowledge of military culture, transitioning from the military to civilian and/or college environment, and the challenges of military-affiliated students. The position chairs the Veteran Advisory Council. The position functions as the Responsible University Officer ( RUO ) for student organizations associated with the Military and Veteran Center.

What You Will Need – Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of military culture, transitioning from the military to a civilian and/or college environment, and the challenges of military-affiliated students.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills through a variety of mediums (e.g., in person, in writing, and digitally).

  • Ability to successfully manage projects concurrently while meeting assigned deadlines and maintaining satisfactory work.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and PeopleSoft or related software

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; Three years’ experience working within the U.S. military; One year of experience working higher education setting in an advisory, administrative, program coordination, recruiting or educational capacity; Knowledge of military culture, transitioning from the military to a civilian and/or college environment and the challenges of military-affiliated students.

Preferred Education and Experience:

What We Would Like You to Have –

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Three – five years of experience in the U.S. military

  • Three – five years of experience at an institution of higher education

  • Experience conducting in-person or online education or training programs

  • Basic proficiency in social media management

  • One year of experience at an institution of higher education
