The AWS Hardware Engineering team is driving rapid innovation in the server and storage infrastructure used by Amazon Web Services. Our designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. Our Software Engineers solve challenging technology problems, and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.
The ideal candidate for this role is an innovative self-starter. You are a software expert with deep knowledge in embedded systems fundamentals. You use comprehensive system knowledge to find the best solutions to multi-factor problems. You enjoy working with engineers across the company as well as external companies on green field development efforts. You are comfortable collaborating with hardware and software development engineers to define system architecture.

What you will do
You will be a member of a team designing AWS-specific hardware and software. You will be a part of the development effort from conception through production. You will explore emerging technologies and their impact on AWS. You will work closely with the AWS engineering teams to tailor devices for the AWS environment.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Understanding of server platform design and architecture
Understanding of server manageability (BMC, IPMI) or server BIOS sub-system
Experience with development for Linux platforms
Experience with software development for embedded platforms
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate
Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
Experience with programmable hardware (FPGA / CPLD)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
