UPMC Security Officer in Cumberland, Maryland

As a Security Officer, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and all UPMC properties. Your presence will help deter criminal activity, and you'll be the first line of response for any issues that arise.

This position will cover second shift, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Rotating weekend and holiday shifts are required!

Responsibilities:

  • Patrol UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas.

  • Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms.

  • Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances.

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.

  • Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards.

  • Staff fixed posts to monitor secured areas.

  • Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details.

  • Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists.

  • Transport deceased to the morgue and release bodies from the morgue.

  • Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with state and local motor vehicle laws.

  • Maintain required certifications and licensing.

  • Complete all mandatory training programs.

  • Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels to prevent theft.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.

  • Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.

  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in written format.

  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

  • All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check.

  • Must be available for all shifts.

  • Officers are required to wear a bulletproof vest.

  • Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement should consult the applicable collective bargaining for specific requirements.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Must meet audio standards

  • Must meet Maryland vision standards of 20/20 corrected.

  • Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.

  • Required Personality Test
