Overview

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Utility Supervisor to oversee and manage our janitorial staff and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance in our facilities. The ideal candidate will have expert experience in commercial floor care, specifically with terrazzo and high-traffic carpet care. This role requires strong leadership skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a deep understanding of janitorial processes and staff management.

Pay: $32 an hour

The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Commercial Floor Care Expertise:

  2. Oversee the cleaning, maintenance, and restoration of terrazzo, high-traffic carpet floors.

  3. Implement best practices for commercial floor care, ensuring longevity and appearance.

  4. Develop and implement floor care programs and protocols, including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules.

  5. Train staff on proper floor care techniques, including stripping, waxing, buffing, scrubbing, diamond polish, and carpet cleaning.

  6. Use specialized equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, extractors, and vacuums.

  7. Evaluate and select appropriate cleaning chemicals and solutions, ensuring safety and effectiveness.

  8. Inspect floors regularly to identify areas that require additional attention or repair.

  9. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for equipment maintenance, repairs, and purchases.

  10. Janitorial Work Management:

  11. Develop and maintain cleaning schedules to ensure all areas of the facility are clean and well-maintained.

  12. Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with company standards and identify areas for improvement.

  13. Coordinate with other departments to address specific cleaning needs or issues.

  14. Staff Management:

  15. Recruit, train, and supervise a team of janitorial staff.

  16. Assign tasks and responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow and coverage.

  17. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and support to team members.

  18. Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and high morale.

  19. Administrative Duties:

  20. Manage payroll for janitorial staff, ensuring accurate and timely processing.

  21. Maintain records of cleaning schedules, supplies, equipment, and staff performance.

  22. Prepare and submit reports on janitorial activities and facility conditions to upper management.

  23. Inventory and Supplies Management:

  24. Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment.

  25. Order and restock supplies as needed, ensuring cost-effective purchasing.

  26. Maintain equipment in good working condition, arranging for repairs or replacements as necessary.

  27. Health and Safety Compliance:

  28. Ensure all janitorial activities comply with health and safety regulations.

  29. Provide training on safe handling of chemicals and proper use of equipment.

  30. Investigate and report any accidents or incidents involving janitorial staff.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in janitorial services or facilities management is a plus.

  • Proven experience in commercial floor care, specifically with terrazzo and high-traffic carpet care.

  • Extensive knowledge of janitorial practices, equipment, and cleaning solutions.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Proficient in using payroll software and managing administrative tasks.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.

  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.

  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions.
