Job Summary

Battelle is currently seeking a Community Outreach Manager . This hybrid position is based in Narragansett, Rhode Island , with flexibility to work from our Crystal City Office. The position reports to the Business Line Manager.

The Community Outreach Manager will be part of the Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office (SODCO) team that is responsible for gathering community input, developing strategy for community engagement and executing strategy. Community outreach Manager will direct key functional areas including community relations, communications, website development, meeting planning. You will serve as an essential liaison between community members and stakeholders, ensuring that the community perspective is reflected in decisions made by SODCO.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, Develop and execute innovative outreach strategies that effectively communicate SODOC’s mission, research activities, and achievements to a broad audience.

  • Identify and target key communities and stakeholders for engagement and collaboration.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage various outreach programs, including workshops, seminars, public lectures, and community events.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging promotional materials and campaigns for outreach activities.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, educational institutions, non-profits, and other relevant organizations.

  • Act as a liaison between SODOC and its community partners, facilitating communication and ensuring alignment of goals and objectives.

  • Organize and oversee community events, ensuring they are effective, well-attended, and within budget.

  • Coordinate logistics, manage event schedules, and handle all aspects of event management from planning to execution.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach programs through feedback surveys, attendance tracking, and other metrics.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports on community engagement activities and their impact, providing insights and recommendations for future initiatives.

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of outreach and communication professionals, ensuring high performance and continuous professional growth.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of applicable experience, Master’s Degree with 3+ years of experience or PhD with 1+ years’ experience in any technical field (History degree preferred)

  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, and conduct meetings, including taking notes on key discussion items, decision points, and goals.

  • Ability to proactively identify program opportunities and risks and suggest appropriate courses of action.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to be proactive and persistent, successfully motivating colleagues and engaging with community members.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in organizing community events and fostering inclusivity with diverse backgrounds and perspectives toward a common cause.

  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment and perform multiple tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with 5 to 10 years’ experience or PhD with 3+ years of experience.
