DOANE UNIVERSITY Sr. Communications Manager in CRETE, Nebraska

Sr. Communications Manager Doane University is accepting qualified applicants for the position of Sr. Communications Manager. The Sr. Communications Manager is a communications professional who will manage all external news communications from Doane University, serve as the university's spokesperson, act as a public relations advisor/consultant to university administration, and enhance media coverage of Doane University through a media relations strategy. Education/Qualifications/Skills/Abilities: Works independently and exercises independent judgment in pitching stories to news media, facilitating interviews with Doane leaders and experts, responding to media inquiries, and serving as a media relations representative at high profile events. Works independently to conduct research, interviews, and writes and edits copy for external media and university publications. Writes press releases and media advisories for dissemination to the news media. Prepares media reports and other information to highlight media placements. Manages all external news communication from Doane University, including news stories, magazine stories, press releases, and media advisories. Oversees the production of Doane Magazine (print and online edition), working in coordination with the Sr. Marketing Manager and Alumni Relations. Also serves as a primary writer and editor of the content. Manages freelance writing support in accordance with position responsibilities and institutional needs. Serves as communications advisor to the President, developing the majority of high-level internal and external communication from the President and preparing the President for comments in the media when requested. Serves as the Public Information Officer on the University Incident Command Team, and in the event of a crisis situation, this position is responsible for the immediate communication plan including gathering information, informing the internal audience and key stakeholders, communicating with the media, and holding press briefings. Support the Chief Marketing Officer and Sr. Marketing Manager with decisions related to university advertising purchases in the media. Remain up-to-date on trending topics of interest with higher education and in connection to Doane University initiatives. Monitor blogs, social media, and other key news outlets to keep pulse of higher education. This is a full time position. Applicants are required to have Bachelor's degree and experience working as a communications professional. Experience working in media is preferred.
