Okaloosa County Master Carpenter - Crestview in Crestview, Florida

: Performs carpentry trade work; constructs, maintains and repairs county property, structures and equipment.

: Assists with the planning, estimation, and coordination of tasks to include, assigning tasks and monitoring status.

Performs construction tasks, to include carpentry and drywall hanging; performs maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment and other county property. Reads and draws blueprints, diagrams and sketches. Performs calculations (i.e., measuring angles and distances, calculating square footage). Operates hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools and equipment (i.e., saws, drills, nail guns, hammers). Repairs structural members, including roofs and roofing components; repairs and replaces locks. Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of equipment, tools and vehicles according to established procedures and sound trade practices. Orders supplies and materials. Performs record maintenance duties (i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs, fuel logs). Identifies and reports deterioration, repair and maintenance needs to supervisor. Performs related duties as required.

: Education, Training, and Experience:High school diploma or GED supplemented by four (4) years of specific experience that provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled carpentry trade work, to include costing out tasks and evaluating materials and supplies needed, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in a supervisory or lead capacity is preferred.

**Licenses and/or Certifications:**Requires a valid driver license.

: Physical Requirements:Must be physically able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical, and gas-powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and working in confined spaces. Must be able to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work

**Language Ability:**Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. **Intelligence:**Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where standardized exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. **Numerical Aptitude:**Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute ratio and proportion. **Interpersonal Temperament:**Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
