Job Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator assists Director by performing clerical duties, research, and data entry for the ED Director. Assists ED director in capturing correct patient charges. Ensures EMS lounge is clean and stocked. Improves ED patient experience by rounding and reporting issues. Functions as a unit secretary as needed.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates proficient use of systems such as AS400, Medhost EDIS, and other applications pertaining to ED operations.
Processes and enters data in audit logs and other reports after review by ED Director.
Reviews charts to capture charges and reports to ED Director for corrections as needed.
Maintains adequacy of supplies and functionality of equipment; manages inventory and orders supplies, as needed.
Ensures EMS Lounge is adequately stocked with food and beverages; coordinates with Dietary; ensures cleanliness.
Performs clerical support to the ED Director including maintenance of logs, records, and spreadsheets.
Rounds on ED patients.
Responds immediately and appropriately to inquiries, requests, and patient call lights.
Maintains and orders supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience required
Associate Degree in healthcare related field preferred
1-2 years clerical experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have knowledge of basic office practices, and customer service concepts.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Sheets.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent customer services and interpersonal skills.
Time management and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) BLS required
