JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Control Technician assists with developing, maintaining and implementing Quality Control Systems to deliver the continuous production of concrete and precast concrete products which meet established standards. The Quality Control Technician is expected to perform regular pre/post pour inspections and document all aspects of Quality Control processes and procedures.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate quality control philosophy to the organization.
- Coordinate quality control processes with plant operations management to maximize product quality and reliability and minimize cost.
- Conduct inspections throughout the production cycle.
- Organize and perform testing as required for the specification.
- Methodically review testing methods and record tracking methods using existing and customized systems.
- Conduct material properties tests and implement necessary modifications based on test results.
- Monitor equipment performance and conduct calibrations, including calibration of stressing, batching and testing instruments.
- Perform daily inspections of batching, mixing, placing and finishing of all appropriate fresh concrete tests
- Daily inspection of stripping operations, including verification of concrete strength requirements and product dimensions
- Responsible for the disposition of non-conforming product, including appropriate documentation, and implementing corrective actions
- Complete all project documentation and quality control records
- Make color and texture samples for project specifications
- Review and file material mill certificates for all materials
- Work closely with production to ensure quality and to address and resolve any issues.
- Is available to work weekend or holiday hours as needed to meet production deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year of experience in concrete manufacturing or production quality control
- Previous experience with and strong working knowledge of concrete batching process
- Experience with design and control of concrete mixtures
- Knowledge of NPCA standards or PCI Standards for pre-cast concrete
- Knowledge of ACI field testing requirements for testing concrete
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to apply experience and judgment to ensure all components are manufactured to the highest standards
- Excellent leadership skills
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to read and interpret building code requirements
- Ability to read, understand and interpret architectural and engineering documents
PREFERRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
- Precast Concrete Institute training levels I, II and III
- American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician - Grade 1
- Advanced math skills
- Precast/Prestressed Quality School I, II, III
- American Concrete Institute Aggregate Testing Technician Grade 1
REQUIRED LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS
- National Precast Concrete Association Production and Quality School Level I (This is required after 120 days from the hire date)
- American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician Grade I (This is required after 120 days from the hire date)
- Valid Class C drivers license
- Safe driving record for the last 3 years.
