The mission of TechACCESS is to promote and support the independence and achievement of people with disabilities through the use of technology.

TechACCESS of RI provides Assistive Technology services (including AAC) to individuals of all ages with differing abilities. We believe that a collaborative team can best identify and select effective technology devices and services to improve the independence of our clients. To achieve this, our programs are offered to assistive technology users, families, educational and therapeutic professionals, and others interested in using assistive technology as a tool to reach identified goals.

The role of an AAC Consultant is to evaluate and train individuals who have limited verbal abilities so they can become effective communicators.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals with communication disabilities to determine their AAC needs.

  • Administer and interpret AAC assessment tools and assistive technology evaluations.

  • Develop and implement AAC intervention plans tailored to the individual's goals and needs.

  • Train individuals with communication disabilities, their families, caregivers, and educational teams in the use of AAC systems and devices.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including educators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, families, and other professionals, to ensure a holistic approach to AAC implementation.

  • Knowledge of AAC Apps and Programs , Alternative Access Methods & AAC Technology Troubleshooting

  • Stay current with advancements in AAC technology and therapy through professional development and training opportunities.

  • Ensure compliance with documentation requirements in various settings, such as schools or healthcare facilities.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Speech Language Therapy

  • Certificate of Clinical Competency

  • Valid driver’s license along with an acceptable driving status.

  • Use of a reliable vehicle, which seats two passengers.

  • Additional specific experience may be required.
