DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Kleinfelder is seeking a dynamic Senior Structural/Highway Engineer to join our Transportation Design team. In this leadership role, you will manage and lead a team on a variety of highway design projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and transportation enhancements. Your expertise will drive market growth across Pennsylvania, expanding our client base, managing project budgets, and overseeing the design process from concept to construction. You will mentor junior engineers, ensure quality control, and play an integral part in shaping the success of key transportation projects. This hybrid role is available in our Cranberry, PA office.
Responsibilities * Lead and manage the design of highway and transportation structures, such as bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. * Oversee a small team of structural engineers, guiding them in the execution of design work and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all deliverables. * Work directly with clients and collaborate with internal teams to build relationships, manage project expectations, and expand our market share throughout Pennsylvania. * Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth to strengthen the team. * Lead structural design efforts, including developing calculations, specifications, and plans, while ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. * Contribute to the initiation, planning, and execution of project tasks, including submission packages, bidding (cost estimates), zoning, permitting, and construction phase services documents. * Prepare technical, cost, and scheduling decisions, ensuring company quality standards, including internal quality control, risk management protocols, and peer reviews. * Provide technical expertise on projects from conceptual and preliminary engineering design through final design, occasionally extending support through construction services. * Coordinate with architects, bridge engineers, environmental professionals, water engineers, geotechnical experts, survey teams, and traffic engineers to complete multi-disciplinary project deliverables. * Collaborate with project managers in various aspects of roadway design, utility infrastructure design, and coordination, as well as the development of construction documents and construction support services. * Develop or assist with detailed civil design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages. * Ensure that the production of specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements. * Occasionally travel to project sites for meetings, site assessments, and client interactions.
Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program. * 10+ years of experience in structural or highway and transportation design. * Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required. * Proven experience leading design teams and managing complex projects. * Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. * Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams. * Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective client and team interactions. * In-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations. * Proficiency in MicroStation and MS Office Suite. * Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
