Job Description:
Power Plant Engineering Intern –2025
Tri-State is a wholesale electric power producer and transmission provider serving the needs of its member rural electric cooperatives and participating in regional wholesale electricity markets, with a Power Plant Engineering Summer Intern opportunity for 2025. Students who have successfully completed two (2) to three (3) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering college or university are encouraged to apply.
This summer intern position offers engineering students hands on opportunities to work in and learn various aspects of electric utility coal fired power plant engineering functions.
Responsibilities include executing and completing significant assigned projects and day to day plant engineering activities under the oversight and direction of the Engineering Superintendent and an Engineer.
Projects may include the following:
Update Electrical Circuit Schedules
Prepare and/or update an Electrical Motor Database
Create a map of Boiler Tube Metal Thermocouples
Assist with the organization of an Engineering Warehouse or Turbine Tool Room
Assist Engineers with inspections of equipment and gathering data or taking measurements.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Engineering students who have successfully completed two (2) to three (3) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering program are encouraged to apply. (Please attach most recent copy of college transcript.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work well with a variety of people; strong verbal and written communications skills; strong organizational skills; strong work ethic; and willingness to learn. Additionally, candidates must have effective computer usage skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Desired Qualifications:
Interest in performing hands-on type of work in a power plant work environment – work will include desk work but will also involve field work. Willingness to work in a rural community setting.
Duration and Work Schedule:
The duration of this summer intern position will be from about the end of May until the end of August. The work schedule includes the option for a compressed work schedule including four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday.
Tri-State offers a competitive pay rate for this position.
Location:
Position is based at Tri-State’s Craig Station, Craig, CO, which is located in the northwest part of the state about 45 minutes west of Steamboat Springs, CO.
