The Systems Administrator plays a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth operation and peak performance of our extensive IT infrastructure. Key responsibilities encompass overseeing, improving, and ensuring the security of our servers, virtual machines, storage systems, cloud services, system monitoring, data backup and security, patch management, network components, and providing support for enterprise applications.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Server Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers running various operating systems, including Windows Server, Linux, and Unix.

  • Manage server resources, including CPU, memory, and storage, to ensure optimal performance and availability.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates, patch management, and system backups.

Virtualization Platform Management

  • Administer virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.

  • Provision and manage virtual machines, including resource allocation, network configuration, and snapshots.

  • Monitor virtual infrastructure performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.

Active Directory Management

  • Administer and maintain Active Directory services, including user and group management, permissions, and group policy implementation.

  • Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of Active Directory infrastructure to support organizational requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve Active Directory-related issues in a timely manner.

SAN and NAS Management

  • Manage and maintain Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network-Attached Storage (NAS) systems to provide reliable and scalable storage solutions.

  • Configure storage arrays, RAID configurations, and volume management to optimize performance and ensure data integrity.

  • Monitor storage usage, performance, and availability, and implement storage capacity planning as needed.

Cloud Services

  • Configure and manage Azure virtual machines, storage accounts, networking components, and security features.

  • Monitor Azure resources for performance, availability, and cost optimization.

  • Implement Azure security best practices, including identity management, access controls, and encryption.

System Monitoring

  • Deploy and configure system monitoring tools to proactively monitor network, server, and application performance.

  • Set up alerts and notifications to quickly identify and respond to potential issues.

  • Analyze monitoring data to identify trends, optimize resource usage, and improve system reliability.

Backup and Disaster Recovery

  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies to protect critical data and ensure business continuity.

  • Configure and manage backup systems, including scheduling, retention policies, and offsite replication.

  • Test backup and recovery procedures regularly to validate their effectiveness and reliability.

Patch Management

  • Manage the patching process for operating systems, applications, and firmware across the IT infrastructure.

  • Develop and implement patch management policies and procedures to ensure timely and effective patch deployment.

  • Coordinate patch testing, deployment scheduling, and rollback procedures as necessary.

Network Infrastructure Administration

  • Configure, deploy, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.

  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize network configurations for efficiency and security.

Security Administration

  • Implement and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to protect IT assets from internal and external threats.

  • Respond to security incidents promptly, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions.

Enterprise Application Support

  • Provide support for enterprise applications such as MS Exchange, SQL, SharePoint which includes installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve application-related issues and implement enhancements.

  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of enterprise applications to meet business needs.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to IT staff and end users on system administration tasks, enterprise applications, and best practices.

  • Participate in the development of IT policies, standards, and guidelines.

Industry Trends:

  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in network engineering. This includes attending conferences, participating in webinars, and pursuing relevant certifications to enhance skills and knowledge.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Knowledge & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems administration.

  • Experience with server administration, including Windows Server, Linux, and Unix.

  • Proficient with administrating Microsoft Active Directory Services (including Azure AD), DHCP, DNS and other core functions.

  • Experience with administrating storage technologies, including SAN and NAS (Dell PowerStore experience a plus)

  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V (Cisco UCS-X experience a plus).

  • Experience with cloud services, particularly Azure, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security.

  • Experience with managing enterprise applications including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and SQL Server.

  • Strong understanding of system monitoring tools and techniques.

  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery best practices and tools.

  • Experience in patch management.

  • Proficiency in administering Cisco and Fortinet network components such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Able to conduct research into issues and products as required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional) are a plus.

The pay range for this position is listed above. Our pay ranges are designed to allow for candidates with various levels of experience and skill to be considered, and to allow room for growth to be achieved in a role over time. Generally, new hire salary offers fall within the minimum to midpoint of a pay range for many candidates. Any offer extended to a candidate will be based upon their individual combination of experience, knowledge, skills, and education as well as internal equity.
