Job Summary

The Department of Horticulture is seeking an Ecampus Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

This position will advise new and continuing undergraduate majors and post-bac online students in Horticulture enrolled through OSU’s Ecampus and assist with recruitment and retention efforts focused on Horticulture distance students. Online students include majors in all Ecampus Horticulture options (currently General Horticulture, Therapeutic Horticulture, and Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics) and all students pursuing Ecampus certificates offered by the Horticulture Dept. (currently Organic Farming Systems and Urban Agriculture).

The Advisor coordinates a range of undergraduate services and programs such as academic advising, career planning and placement, scholarships and awards, and recruitment and retention.

All duties include working with diverse student populations, including ethnic minorities, older than average students, students with disabilities, and those enrolled from remote areas, some of which are outside the U.S. Important aspects of the work include developmental advising, attention to detail, and frequent contact with other units at the university.

College of Agricultural Sciences faculty are committed to enhancing student success by engaging students in quality academic, research, internships, global studies, and other experiential learning opportunities. What You Will Need

Bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, or closely related field.

Previous work experience in a field related to agricultural sciences.

Record of/commitment to work with underrepresented/underserved students or other audiences.

Excellent computer and communication skills. Competency with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Microsoft Excel, as well as with use of web browsers, such as Explorer or Firefox.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including telephone skills.

Experience in organizing programs, planning recruitment events, preparing advising materials, and communicating with administrators, faculty, and other advisors.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months

What We Would Like You to Have

Master’s Degree in agricultural sciences, or closely related field.

Previous experience in undergraduate student advising, student activities programming, or counseling in a college or university.

Experience working with Ecampus students, or students enrolled in another distance degree program.

Skills in web design, construction, and maintenance.

Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved audiences.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Ability to work at a computer for extended periods. Some travel and evening work may be need to perform some of these duties.
