Cortland County Dog Control Officer - City of Cortland in Cortland, New York

Dog Control Officer - City of Cortland This position is will carry out the provisions of the Agriculture and Markets law dealing with the seizure, impound, and destruction of stray and dangerous dogs. This includes but is not limited to managing the City’s kennel for the first 24-hours of seizure, reviewing and filing necessary documents for dangerous dog cases, and other duties as assigned. The work is performed under the general direction of the Police Chief or his designee. An employee in this class must possess skills in handling dogs and other small animals and be able to work independently in the field. Additional duties include responding to animal complaints and issuing citations for violations of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Cortland relative to canine violations. This is a Public Officer position. A Dog Control Officer does related work as required. Work Hours: Part-time, up to 20 hours per weekLocation: City Hall 25 Court Street. Cortland, NY 13045Status: Non-competitive, PJCSalary: $18.00 to $22.00 per hour Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of work experience involving the handling of dogs or other small domestic animals.
