SUNY Cortland Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing for Technology and Marketing in Cortland, New York

Position Summary:

This assistant director position is a live-off campus position with the responsibility of the marketing of Residence Life and Housing with an overall emphasis on the retention of on-campus students. The assistant director is also responsible for managing technology that is used to interact and support students who live on campus. This role includes the direct supervision of professional staff.

Major Responsibilities:

University Housing

  • Assist with Open House and Orientation programs, including presenting information about Residence Life and Housing, and tabling/answering individual questions

  • Serve as the administrator on duty rotation by assisting the live-in professional staff by helping to facilitate key decisions during emergency situations and responding to student and residential incidents as needed

  • Supervise 1-2 live-in professional staff and their associated building and hall staff

  • Collaborate with other offices on campus as needed as it relates to student success

  • Act as a technology and marketing resource for staff recruitment and training

  • Serve as liaison to the campus Marketing and Communications Office

  • Manage early arrival and extended stay housing requests, including door access

  • Collaborate with international student services to provide the international orientation program in fall and spring semesters including during housing breaks

  • Facilitate online guest registration in residence halls

  • Create assessment materials and timelines to assess and evaluate Residence Life and Housing office programs and services offered to students and provide recommendations based on the findings

Technology

  • Serve as software administrator for Housing Management System, including managing user group privileges, creating new terms and rollover housing assignments, maintain daily operations, and providing user training, providing tutorials for students, creation of and maintaining user guides, and recommending feature changes

  • Coordinate and update the inventory of Residence Life and Housing office technology (hardware and software)

  • Collaborate with Information Resources (IR) to implement programs and increase overall effectiveness and efficiency of technology use

  • Provide technology and software assistance and support to Residence Life and Housing staff

  • Serve as liaison for Campus Technology Services

Marketing

  • Market Residence Life and Housing program with an emphasis on the retention of on campus students

  • Create and update market-specific publications

  • Manage and improve Residence Life and Housing’s web site, portal page, and social media accounts.

  • Manage targeted messaging to residential students including opening and closing information

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • Minimum of two years post baccalaureate, professional residence life experience in a college housing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the areas of Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field

  • Experience with Housing Management Software/Web Design Tools/Maxient and Banner

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience

  • Supervisory experience

  • HTML and Web page construction (.cms), publications, and/or college housing marketing experience
