Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will install shingles and tiles in straight lines to insure proper overlap and coverage. You will interpret work orders that outline the work to be done, materials and methods to be used in accomplishing the job. You will apply asphalt around flashings and gravel guards to obtain proper seal. You will measure and cut roofing materials to the required lengths and dimensions. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Roofer Worker without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) Sweeping and cleaning roofs to prepare them for the application of new roofing materials; 2) Applying roofing material (e.g., tile, composition, tar, gravel, sheathing, concrete, sheet rock) to roofs; and 3) Utilizing basic roofing tools and materials to repair damage. This position may require the ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or Construction equipment, upon notification. Should work be assigned that requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment, the incumbent will be required to obtain such certification or licensing and maintain any associated qualification requirements. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position. Must be able adapt to present knowledge and skills to new technology changes through progressive on-the-job and formal training required for this position. May be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires. May be assigned to a truck stocked with controlled inventory and consumable materials. If assigned a stocked truck the incumbent is responsible for managing the material by following established procedures for inventory control and cost accounting. May be designated to receive work assignments from Regional Dispatch. If designated as a dispatched worker the incumbent is responsible for following established work dispatch procedures and processes. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. Physical Effort: The work requires considerable standing, climbing, stooping, ending, stretching and working in cramped, awkward positions. Rolls, tips and loads barrels of tar weighing up to 450 pounds with assistance of others, forklift or hoist. Raises up to, 90-pound rolls of roofing paper and 100-pound bags of gravel to roof by rope, pulley and gin-pole at frequent intervals. Stoops, reaches and picks up materials and walks across both gently sloping and steep roofs, carrying materials to point of application, generally not more than 30 feet. Climbs ladders, kneels, crouches and stoops frequently in applying, fittings or securing parts and materials. Working Conditions: Works both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. Employee has exposure to sun, dust, noise, heat and fumes from tar, asphalt and kettle that are considered to be normal to trade. Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, splinters, falling objects, injury from improper lifting, illness from exposure to weather. Works from scaffolding, ladders, and on roofs may be exposed to roofing materials containing asbestos fiber, in which case, supervisor must be notified to insure proper safety measures are taken. Several vacancies may be filled.
