The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
Scope of Position
Collaborate with senior engineers’ staff to understand project requirements and design specifications.
Assist in the design of equipment using SolidWorks/CAD software.
Participate in project meetings and contribute ideas and solutions to improve design efficiency and quality.
Create detailed drawings and documentation for manufacturing and assembly processes.
Support the implementation of design changes and improvements based on feedback from senior engineers.
Conduct research and analysis to solve engineering problems and improve existing designs.
Ensure that all designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
Assist with other engineering tasks as needed.

Requirements
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
Working knowledge or experience with design of experiments (DOE) concepts
Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC or similar principles
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis
Time management and ability to prioritize work
Excellent critical analysis, problem solving, communication, and logic/reasoning skills.
Ability to interact with management and team members.
Basic understanding of machining processes and manufacturing principals
Willingness to work with your hands
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
