The Custom Solutions Manufacturing Leader provides strategic, scientific, and manufacturing direction to the Synthetic Biology Custom Solutions group. This position also collaborates with customers, business unit leadership, R&D teams, operations leadership, and other cross functional teams to help inform strategic decision making on project intake and product development through an operations focused lens.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Directs team in creating, documenting, and executing customized manufacturing plans in support of high value customers and projects.

  • Collaborates with customers to identify key needs and requirements and develop customized solutions to meet those.

  • Provides insight and serves as a technical expert with business units, product management, and product development in selecting relevant projects for intake.

  • Creates and coordinates technology transfer plans to support transition of customized solutions to manufacturing, and/or R&D groups with clear process and product requirements

  • Hires, develops, engages, and retains talent for custom solutions team. Sets appropriate goals and priorities aligned with business objectives in collaboration with site directors and value stream leaders, aligned with the business strategy and forecasting.

  • Manages budget, inventory, quality, schedule, compliance, and safety activities and metrics. Champions quality, safety, and continuous improvement mind-set and makes data driven decisions.

  • Communicates complex ideas regarding synthetic biology in a clear and concise manner with customers and internal stakeholders.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Master’s degree in related field and at least 5 years of experience or Bachelor's degree with 8 years experience with molecular biology and synthetic biology applications including cloning, PCR, NGS, CRISPR or similar.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and excellence.

  • Keen understanding of lab automation.

  • Demonstrates extensive attention to detail and exemplary organizational skills.

  • Adept at handling several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Able to effectively navigate shifting priorities and help a team do so with minimal structure.

  • Highly collaborative mindset and ability to work in a cross-functional setting. Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner with customers and all levels of internal organization.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • PhD in a synthetic biology related field strongly preferred.

  • More than 5 years of experience with molecular biology and synthetic biology applications including cloning, PCR, NGS, CRISPR or similar preferred.

  • Product development experience preferred.

  • Experience troubleshooting large and complex workflows preferred.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
